All the images were taken by the photographer Marc Fluri during his time with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba from February-March 2012. He returned to Havana continue the work from October-November 2012.The photographs are part of a larger project telling the story of one of the best classical ballet companies in the world – up close and personal. All proceeds from the sale of the images will go directly to financing the project - a work in progress that involves the photographer returning to Cuba.
The first prints (01-06) were exhibited in The Covarrubias Hall of The National Theatre of Havana during the 2012 International Ballet Festival in Havana.

BACK IN COPENHAGEN AFTER SOME INTENSE DAYS IN HAVANA
I HAD PLANNED TO SPEND MORE DAYS IN CUBA BUT UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS  IMPOSSIBLE.
BUT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GET BACK TO HAVANA
  THIS IS ONLY THE START OF A PROJECT.

THE CUBAN BALLET

On February 25 I am going to Havana to photograph the Cuban classical ballet.

I was only briefly introduced to Cuban ballet,during my last visit, which is dated far back, but it made a lasting impression on me. I had difficulty grasping the link between the spontaneous and improvised way of life, which has become a necessity in order to survive in Cuba, with classical ballet, which is controlled and choreographed down to every last detail.

Ballet Nacional de Cuba has granted me permission to photograph performances at the Gran Teatro, as well as classes at the school of ballet 
I look forward to this with excitement and enthusiasm.
So far I have 11 days
Had hoped for 30 days but it has been difficult to get visas.
I'll try if I can change things when I'm in cuba.
I will so far as it is possible  upload pictures on the blog while I am in Havana ....
